Castello di Bolgheri

Castello di Bolgheri

A centuries-old history

The Bolgheri Castle, whose origins date back to the 13th century, has always been owned by the Gherardesca Counts.
Its cellar, dated five centuries later, is the oldest in the area and the only one in the Bolgheri country.
Although wine has been produced here for centuries, the credit of having turned the agricultural reality into a high quality winery goes to the current family’s descendant, Federico Zileri Dal Verme.

The viticultural evolution

Together with his father Clemente and his mother Franca Spalletti Trivelli, inspired by the origins of the Bolgheri DOC, in 1996 he began to convert the Castle lands’ into vineyards.
Today there are 55 hectares, all planted along the Viale dei Cipressi and in the northern part of Bolgheri.
Federico Zileri was also the second President of the Consortium, taking over from Nicolò Incisa della Rocchetta in 2013.
